Greetings from the Douglas MacArthur Elementary School PTA!
Our new school, completed in 2023, opened its doors 80 years after our original building — with eight classrooms — welcomed the children of workers supporting the US war effort working at the nearby Naval Torpedo Factory during World War II.
But, it isn’t our building that makes Douglas MacArthur a special place. It is our rich history of community, nurtured — in part — by a robust and active Parent Teacher Association.
Our school motto is: MacArthur Stars shine brightly. Our job is to help make that a reality!
Our PTA’s mission is to foster and support a community focused on achieving academic excellence and well being for each of our students. The collective volunteerism and donations of PTA and community members make annual traditions — such as fun runs, the Spelling Bee, twice yearly free book giveaways for every student, International Heritage Night, the school dance and field trips to the many amazing sites around Alexandria — possible for our students.
The Douglas MacArthur PTA is an all-volunteer group, and we believe no donation of time or money is too small. Our school has grown from humble beginnings to now educating nearly 700 students from around the globe. We view that diversity as a strength and welcome everyone to join!
